219. Ryusei festival
Went to see Ryusei (rising dragon) festival at Shimo-Yoshida, Chichibu. This is a festival shooting up rockets in order to dedicate to Muku Shrine, and said to have lasted for more than 400 years.
First a pine tree is split into two halves and their insides are hollowed out. Then they are rebuilt into a cylinder by hooping them with bamboo belts, much like making a traditional sake brewing cask. Next gunpowder is ramed down into the cylinder with mauls. Futher the cylinder bottom is bored by a gimlet for the jet nozzle. The finished cylinder is tipped on top of a 20-m long bamboo and shot up from the tower at a hill bottom.
After being placed as in the photo, the rocket is shot up at the end of the message dedicated to the deity by each rocket school. As there is no such thing like a countdown, the moment of firing is difficult to anticipate for the outsiders. Totally 30 rockets are shot up from the morning to the evening.

218. Bush clover

Today is the day for moon-viewing. and as usual I went and got silver grass.
Silver grass is seen everywhere in Hokusou upland, while the habitat of bush clover is limited.
As there was a place with the name including "bush clover", I drove that area looking around restlesly and found what looks like to it at the opposite side of the lane. Upon making a U-turn in a hurry, I found out gorgeous colony of the bush clover. That is those in the photo.
Well, that place next year too.

217. A high place is to their likingH
During the tuning work of a delta-loop antenna on the roof, something green crawls in front of my eyes.
Wow, mantis.
Well, a small spider was also around. They all look to like a high place.

213. Sept. 1st Ketien temple

The month of August has gone.
Visited Ketien temple, to see how it looks in September, and found many lotus bear their seeds.
The close-up view of these seeds is interesting one and I took the photo. However there seem to be many who feel an aversion to see that type of image. Thus it is not shown here.
Net searching shows that this phenomenon is called trypophobia, and about 20 % of the ordinary people have such reaction. It is said that many repetitive patterns conjure up something dangerous, and this brings about a preventive reaction to avoid that possible risk.

212. Antennas on Sirase
Then, go to antennas. The most conspicuous difference between the two is in that the old Sirase has a log-periodic antenna and the present one doesn't.
HF log-periodic antenna is too large for radio amaterus to handle, but it is said that the antenna is convenient in covering wide frequency range. Though I don't know the present situation, this type of antenna was used in many embassies located in central Tokyo. As the antennas always looked to point to the same direction, they must be used to communicate with their own countries.
The next photo is for the antennas and others on top of the current Sirase bridge. As in the photos, for HF, wire antennas and vertical rod antenna with more than 5 m length are seen, and for V/UHF, dipole antennas. All are of simple type.

211.@Sirase
Went to Funabasi port, upon hearing the old and current "Sirase" (ice-breaker) berth together. Indeed, they look alike.
Their vessel numbers are 5002 and 5003. In defense force, these are to be pronounced, "go maru maru futa" and "go maru maru san". Googling the number of Fuji, the vessel before Sirase, indicates 5001, thus "go maru maru hito". It is now moored in Nagoya.
